Medicover Genetics Cyprus showcases the impact of research and innovation to representatives of the European Commission and the Ministry of Finance

Nicosia, 8 July 2026 – Medicover Genetics Cyprus welcomed on July 2nd 2026 a delegation from the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission and the Directorate General Growth of the Ministry of Finance, comprising Mr Nicolas De Michelis, Deputy Director-General of DG REGIO, Mr Panayiotis Padazatos, Mr Kypros Kyprianou, and Mr Charis Soteriou, for a visit focused on the company's contribution to research, innovation, and the development of Cyprus' knowledge-based economy.

The visit formed part of the Annual Performance Review Meeting of the "THALIA 2021-2027" Cohesion Policy Programme and the European Commission's on-site visits to projects co-funded under the European Union's Cohesion Policy in Cyprus.

During the visit, the representatives were introduced to Medicover Genetics' growth journey, its scientific and innovation activities, as well as its research project, co-funded by the EU under the RESTART Research and Innovation Programmes of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF), which form part of the Cohesion Policy Programme “THALIA 2021–2027“and its strategic contribution to strengthening Cyprus' position in the life sciences sector. Through presentations and discussions with the company's leadership and scientific teams, participants explored the role of European and national funding programmes in accelerating research and innovation, translating scientific knowledge into internationally recognised reproductive genetics and oncology solutions, and creating wider socioeconomic value through improved access to advanced diagnostics, highly skilled employment, and the development of a knowledge-based economy.

Public investment achieves its greatest value when it extends beyond supporting research and delivers lasting scientific, societal, and economic impact. Its purpose not only funds innovation, but maximises the return on investment by translating research excellence into solutions that improve lives, strengthen healthcare systems, and reinforce Europe's competitiveness.

Through sustained investment from European, national, and private funding programmes, Medicover Genetics has transformed innovation developed in Cyprus into internationally recognised reproductive genetics and oncology solutions that expand access to highly specialised diagnostics across Europe. By enabling earlier access to important health information, more personalised care, and improved patient outcomes, the company contributes to more equitable healthcare while advancing a knowledge-based economy built on scientific excellence, high-value employment, technological innovation, and international collaboration. This demonstrates how strategic investment in research can generate sustainable socioeconomic value that extends well beyond national borders, benefiting patients, healthcare systems, and society across Europe.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Marios Ioannides, Managing Director of Medicover Genetics Cyprus said:

"Medicover Genetics Cyprus demonstrates how scientific innovation developed in Cyprus can achieve global impact. The support provided through European, national, and private funding has enabled us to transform research excellence into internationally recognised diagnostic solutions that improve patient care, support highly skilled employment, and strengthen Cyprus' position as a regional centre for life sciences innovation. We remain committed to investing in research, advancing cutting-edge genomic technologies, and delivering lasting value for patients, healthcare systems, and society."

The visit reaffirmed the importance of close collaboration between the public and private sectors in accelerating innovation, strengthening regional competitiveness, and supporting sustainable economic growth through investments in research, technology, and scientific excellence.
