Factor XII deficiency
Synonyms: Hageman trait
Overview
Factor XII deficiency (Hageman trait) is a rare hereditary coagulation disorder caused by reduced or absent factor XII (FXII) activity, producing an isolated prolongation of the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT). FXII appears not to be essential for blood clotting, as individuals with this condition are usually asymptomatic.
