Immunogenetics

Placing genetics at the core of medical decisions

Immunogenetics testing analyses immune-related genetic markers and histocompatibility factors, most commonly the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) system and, in selected contexts, killer-cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) genes.

These tests support clinical decision-making in areas such as transplantation, donor–recipient compatibility assessment, HLA disease association, pharmacogenomic safety screening, transfusion medicine, and post-transplant monitoring. In selected specialist settings, immunogenetic testing may also contribute to reproductive medicine assessment, where supported by clinical evidence and expert interpretation.

Unlike many genetic tests, immunogenetics testing does not usually aim to identify a single disease-causing variant. Results are typically interpreted as compatibility, association, susceptibility, immune-interaction, monitoring, or therapy-related risk information, depending on the clinical indication. They should not usually be interpreted in the same way as rare disease or monogenic variant results.

Testing is performed using validated methodologies and internationally recognised professional standards, including the standards of the .
