Fish eye disease (FED) is caused by partial deficiency of lecithin:cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT), leading to markedly reduced HDL-cholesterol and progressive corneal opacification. It is generally milder than familial LCAT deficiency, as renal function is spared.
