Overview
Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) occur in approximately 3ā6 per 1,000 newborns and frequently lead to chronic kidney failure in childhood. They comprise a broad spectrum of structural and functional malformations resulting from defective morphogenesis of the kidneys and/or the urinary tract and can occur in isolation or as part of complex malformation syndromes. The phenotypic spectrum ranges from vesicoureteral reflux to renal agenesis.
