Overview
Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) is a disorder in which the renal tubules do not respond to antidiuretic hormone (ADH), resulting in an inability to concentrate urine. This leads to symptoms such as polyuria, polydipsia, and possible neurological disorders. In 90% of cases, NDI is inherited in an X-linked manner and is caused by variants in the AVPR2 gene, which encodes the vasopressin V2 receptor. In 10% of cases, variants in the AQP2 gene, encoding aquaporin-2, are identified.
