Overview
Absence seizures are brief generalised seizures characterised by sudden impaired awareness and behavioural arrest, followed by an immediate return to normal activity. They are typically associated with generalised 2.5ā5.5 Hz spike-and-wave discharges on EEG. Absence seizures are characteristic of idiopathic generalised epilepsies but may also occur in monogenic developmental and epileptic encephalopathies.
