Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Synonyms: CJD, genetic Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (gCJD)
Overview
Genetic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (gCJD) is a rapidly progressive, uniformly fatal neurodegenerative disorder caused by pathogenic variants in PRNP. The variant destabilises the cellular prion protein and promotes its conversion into a misfolded, self-propagating isoform that accumulates in central nervous system tissue.
