Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) / MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP)
Synonyms: FAP / MAP
Overview
Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP) are inherited syndromes predisposing to colorectal cancer and extracolonic tumours. They are characterised by the development of multiple adenomatous polyps of the large intestine, with considerable variability in poly burden. In the absence of appropriate surveillance and prophylactic management, individuals with FAP have an almost 100% lifetime risk of colorectal cancer, whereas the risk in MAP is also high but lower compared to FAP.
