Colorectal Cancer (CRC)
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in men and women, with the second highest mortality rate with almost 0.9 million deaths. The incidence varies widely globally, with the highest rates seen in the highest-income countries. Colorectal cancer accounted for an estimated 2,041,007 new cases and 917,895 deaths worldwide in 2024.
Available tests
The analyses listed below can be requested individually or as a combined molecular analysis. The selected test should be based on histotype, disease setting, previous biomarker results, available tissue, and the clinical question. The assays described here represent a focused set of biomarkers and do not replace comprehensive biomarker profiling when broader testing is clinically indicated.
Single-method analysis | Panel | Gene scope | Purpose |
| Sequencing | Panel00705 | BRAF, KRAS, NRAS, POLE | Proofreading defect; BRAF, KRAS and NRAS status of the tumour |
| Fusion gene analysis | Panel00702 | NTRK1, NTRK2, NTRK3, RET | Identification of an NTRK or RET gene fusion |
| MLH1 promoter methylation | Panel00704 | MLH1 | Distinction of sporadic mismatch repair defect from Lynch syndrome |
| Microsatellite instability (MSI) | Panel00703 | Microsatellite marker analysis | Determination of microsatellite instability (MSI), the presence of microsatellites with altered lengths, typically caused by defects in the DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system |
Combined analysis | Panel | Gene scope |
| Targeted analysis | Panel00535 | BRAF, KRAS, NRAS, POLE, NTRK1, NTRK2, NTRK3, RET, MLH1 |
Depending on the clinical setting, additional biomarkers not included in the focused panels may be required. These additional analyses on tumour tissue are also available (see Panel 00617 – ).
