Non-invasive foetal RhD determination
Non-invasive fetal Rhesus RHD determination identifies the RHD status of the fetus using a maternal blood sample during pregnancy. This prenatal test is designed for RhD-negative pregnant women, who may be at risk of RhD sensitisation if the fetus is RHD positive, a situation affecting approximately 17% of pregnant women. By analysing cell-free fetal DNA in maternal plasma using real-time PCR, the test enables accurate fetal RHD determination without invasive procedures. Results support informed decision-making regarding anti-D prophylaxis, avoiding unnecessary treatment in RhD-negative pregnancies and supporting appropriate maternal care while reducing overtreatment.
Our test
Our fetal RHD determination test analyses cell-free fetal DNA from maternal plasma using real-time PCR targeting three RHD gene regions (exons) to detect as many relevant RHD variants as possible. The test demonstrates high diagnostic sensitivity (>99%) and specificity (>98%), providing reliable results from a single maternal blood sample, with no invasive fetal procedure and only the usual risks associated with routine venepuncture for the mother.
