New publication by Medicover Genetics: Opportunities and limitations of high-throughput sequencing in invasive prenatal diagnostics

Medicover Genetics is pleased to announce the publication of an article coauthored by PD Dr. Markus Stumm in Geburtshilfe und Frauenheilkunde, the official journal of the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (DGGG, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe).

This interesting review article, available in English and German, covers the benefits and limitations of using next generation sequencing (massive parallel sequencing) for prenatal diagnostics and includes a comprehensive discussion on exome diagnostics in this context. The publication concludes with a summary of developments in molecular genetic diagnostics that could be used to support prenatal confirmation of genetic disorders in the future.

Prenatal genetic analysis is especially important in the case of abnormal ultrasound findings, allowing parents to make an informed, independent decision about the pregnancy or to obtain a risk assessment for future pregnancies.
